Built for the people who
match products for a living
SmartSwap was created by consultants who spent years watching skilled people burn hours on manual product matching. Here's what we built, how it works, and what it's already done.
SmartSwap's Origin Story
Our team has worked as technical consultants for years, specializing in simplifying operational processes across industries. SmartSwap was created after working closely with large distributors who spent hours matching products toward their competitors.
With thousands of articles in their product lines, they wanted to steer new customers from a competitor's catalog to their own — often by looking directly at transactional data of what the customer had already bought and at what prices. The first step for that task is mapping what your equivalent is to what the customer has. For this, SmartSwap is extraordinary.
As the product developed, we noticed an even bigger demand from people working with public tenders — distributors with large product lines who needed to match their assortment to hundreds of product requirements. SmartSwap handles this with the same mindset: if you have descriptive product information, Smartswap can look at it, interpret it, and present your best match.
An eye for detail that humans miss at scale
- Matches on just a product name — no description required
- Notices differences in color, size, and spec within the same product group
- Works across languages without any manual translation step
- Searches hundreds of thousands of articles in seconds
"SmartSwap can look at extremely little product information and still find your best alternative — even when searching through hundreds of thousands of articles."
How SmartSwap Actually Works
Built on text embedding technology that has been developing since the seventies — now powerful enough to understand the meaning of product text across any language.
Text Embeddings
A Large Language Model translates the meaning of product text into a number — capturing not just the words, but what the product actually is. Color, size, category, and context are all encoded.
Vector Database
Those numbers are stored in a database built to map meaning to coordinates in multi-dimensional space — the same technique online shops use to suggest similar products to you.
Instant Matching
When you upload a product list, Smartswap queries the vector database and surfaces your best match in seconds — even when searching across hundreds of thousands of articles or multiple languages.
